Pathogen Analysis of Acute Encephalitis and
Acute Hepatitis

Research overview

NUPID (The Infectious Diseases Group in the Department of Pediatrics at Nagoya University) performs quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) assays for viral DNA in clinical specimens obtained from patients with acute encephalitis or acute hepatitis. In addition to qPCR-based viral DNA quantification, we perform in-house pathogen detection using next-generation sequencing (NGS) on the Illumina MiSeq i100 platform as well as nanopore sequencing. These NGS-based approaches facilitate identification of etiologic pathogens in acute encephalitis and acute hepatitis, particularly in cases in which conventional diagnostic assays do not yield a definitive
resuit.
We also apply single-cell analyses to characterize host immune responses and disease pathophysiology in severe infectious diseases. Please contact us to discuss test requests, feasibility, and specimen requirements.
