Research overview

NUPID (The Infectious Diseases Group in the Department of Pediatrics at Nagoya University) is conducting a study to investigate the association between the incidence of adverse effects and NUDT15 gene polymorphisms in patients receiving antiviral therapy with ganciclovir/valganciclovir for cytomegalovirus infection.
Ganciclovir and valganciclovir are widely used for the treatment of cytomegalovirus infection; however, hematologic toxicity, particularly cytopenia, is a frequent and clinically significant adverse effect. By clarifying the relationship between NUDT15 gene polymorphisms and the therapeutic efficacy and safety profile of ganciclovir/valganciclovir, we aim to reduce the risk of adverse effects and facilitate more individualized treatment strategies.
